Behind the Design: These litter-carrying honey bees were born in 1942 at Bowman Field, Kentucky, the first Army Air Forces training base for flight nurses and medics. The 801st Medical Air Evacuation Squadron, the first AE group trained, was sent to the North African combat zone during WWII to treat and evacuate war casualties.
